The Role

Imperial Brands is an inclusive, innovative global FMCG business supported by 25,000 employees who are looking for a Senior Mechanical Development Engineer to join the team in Liverpool.

Working within the Mechanical Engineering Team, this role will be a highly experienced technical expert in mechanical engineering.  You will work on New Product Development projects within the R&D pillar of the Innovation function. The role plays a key part in device development for all new product development projects.

 

Principal Accountabilities

 

  • Leading product developments from a technical point of view for the entire device development team
  • Provide insight on key industry and technology developments to maintain competitiveness & efficiencies as well as informing product and technology pipelines for the future.
  • Developing innovative concepts to solve engineering challenges.
  • Managing the prototype design, iterative development, and testing activities to validate these concepts leveraging the capabilities of the team (mechanical engineers and technicians)
  • Responsible for the maintenance of design and standard procedures specific to mechanical design and in particular meet the needs of product specification regulatory and industry standards
  • Develop strong relationships with suppliers to enable access to newest technologies and facilitate prototype production and scale up to full production.
  • Work with Partners to provide innovative concept generation to solve engineering challenges and liaise with external suppliers for prototype production and scale up to full production.

Skills and Experience Required

 

  • Multiple full product developments completed (full lifecycle).
  • Significant experience in product development. 3D design experience
  • Able to use SolidWorks (or similar software) to create innovative concepts to address engineering challenges.
  • Experience in checking and approving engineering drawings for mass manufacture and 2D design experience
  • Understanding of GDT, tolerance stack analysis, and process capability (CPK, PPK and of manufacturing general tolerances (injection moulding, elastomer, and stamping)
  • Excellent knowledge/experience of manufacturing processes (injection moulding, stamping, extrusion)
  • High level of competence in planning and risk mitigation with large/critical R&D projects
  • Proven history of working with suppliers and partners from concept generation to per-production
  • Experience in IP generation to provide the legal team with enough information to protect your idea.
