The Role

Reporting to the ERP Platform Lead, the SAP Basis Architect will be responsible for creating and maintaining the SAP Basis component of the SAP ECC and/or S/4 architectures and designs, and overseeing and providing technical guidance to projects delivering relevant solutions. In doing so, the SAP Basis Architect will seek opportunities to build out and leverage existing components of the platform and reusable services.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage technical architecture analysis, research, design and development of new functionality and integration with key applications and services under SAP ecosystems 
• Architects and sizes SAP Solutions across multiple platform variants and SAP Technologies.  This will include designing SAP solutions in both Cloud and on premise scenarios. 
• Design new solution extensions based on customer requirements 
• Provide architecture and design guidance to the development team 
• Monitor the work of the technical team and ensure standards are adhered to in accordance with SAP’s Solution Extensions 
• Ensure technical integrity of projects, making sure that common technical elements are leveraged, and that work is not duplicated 
• Work with and advise the QA team on the design of test plans, test cases and on automation 
• Help and review with the creation of training, product, and solution documentation 
• Coordinate with other technical teams to ensure compatibility with other global IT components 
• Hold self and others accountable to the committed deadlines and ensure successful deliverables 
• Take an active role in the development of other team members 
• Engage with leading customers and strategic partners to identify and validate requirements and translate to solution design 
• Performing integration architecture and infrastructure design activities 
• Participating in resolving technology integration problems 
• Act as a mentor, coach, and provide training to engineers and consultants by sharing solution and technical expertise. 
• Ensure customer satisfaction through quality work and effective communication throughout projects 
• Design Technical and Solution Architecture. 
• Gather non-functional requirements, undertake project planning and management activities 
• Provide expert advice on SAP functionality, change management and other advisory services 
• Suggest solutions based on best practice 
• SAP Performance Management

Skills & Experience

• Minimum 10+ years experience in both ECC and S/4 
• Have a good understanding of SAP best practices with demonstrable record of accomplishment in SAP technical installation, upgrade, migration and day-to-day administration across multiple OS and Database variants  
• Can demonstrate a clear understanding of BASIS specific compatibility issues and the benefits of the various design methodologies and BASIS orientated environments. 
• Fluency in English, both written and spoken
• Must have excellent expertise in SAP technology with solid understanding of SAP modules and their connection to the SAP Basis area. Any additional modules in-depth knowledge is not essential for the role but will be considered a plus.
• Must be an expert in analysing, creating system specifications, and developing tests and implementing business solutions utilizing SAP technologies. 
• Experience working with interfaces in addition to Web Services, such as Rest APIs communicating with non-SAP applications. 
• Must have good experience with SAP security concepts and must have implemented authorization checks in ABAP objects. 
• Experience managing projects and working with a team of Engineers. 
• Expertise in doing Solution demos and presentations to customers/business stakeholders/architects. 
• Ability to assess and manage technical risks and issues. 
• Extensive experience in systems development and an understanding of the systems development / delivery life cycle including requirements and design 
• Breadth of knowledge in established and emerging data technologies, including Big Data and ‘as a service’ architectures
• Natural gravitas based on foundation of sound knowledge of subject matter and communication abilities. Strong and inspirational leadership qualities and a common sense approach.
• Proven networking skills and stakeholder management skills with a good understanding of the wider objectives.
