The Role

Working within the Device Engineering Team and reporting to the Head of Device Development.  This role will be focussed on making sure our new product developments are designed and tested to meet all applicable compliance standards.  Working within the R&D pillar of the Innovation function, the role plays a key part in device development for all new product development projects enabling them to be released in selected international locations.

Principal accountabilities

  • Working within a team of multi-disciplined engineers and technicians to develop, test and deliver prototypes and technical solutions for new innovation projects including
    • Managing a team to preform testing accurately, on time, and in line with the needs of the projects
    • Responsible for keeping the device development team informed on current and new international regulations e.g. safety, EMC, environmental
    • Point of contact for other key stakeholders in the business on product regulatory matters
    • Represent and defend IMB’s commercial interests and ensure business readiness and understanding of risks and opportunities of emerging standards at Standard Bodies e.g., at CEN and ISO working groups.
    • Working with external test houses to plan pre-compliance and compliance testing
    • Apply existing knowledge of full lifecycle product developments to assist in managing product development projects successfully and efficiently
    • Working closely with the Formulation team writing formal test plans and specifications to ensure all internal testing is conducted in accordance with the relevant standards and regulations
    • Working within the device development team to develop innovative concepts to solve engineering challenges.
    • Work closely with multifunctional counterparts (Marketing/Category, MSC, Quality and Regulatory) to deliver fit for purpose propositions (Consumer, Cost, Scalability) and ensure technical requirements are clearly understood
    • Key contributor to initial product requirement specifications and to DFMEAs
    • Working on multiple projects at the same time
    • Coach Test Engineers/Technicians within the team to help build internal skills/capabilities

Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Essential

  • BEng/MEng in a relevant technical/engineering discipline (or equivalent)
  • Experience with: Safety (IEC 62368, IEC 60335), EMC, RoHS, WEEE and REACH regulations
  • Background in testing for electronic products
  • Very good English language skills, written and oral
  • >15 years experience in product development/test
  • Multiple full product developments completed (full lifecycle).
  • DFMEA Experience.
  • Proficient at managing people and project resource
  • Effective communicator capable of managing and collaborating with internal and external partners
  • Confident in carrying out testing
  • Able to direct others clearly in test methods
  • Interest in device regulations and a desire to continuously keep up to date with new standards and regulations
  • Line management experience

Desirable

  • Experience of Li-Ion battery power devices
  • Experience of contributing to standards working groups
  • Experience with EVP and/or HT products
  • Knowledge/experience of manufacturing processes
  • Experience in development of electronic consumer products or medical devices
