As global Human Rights lead, your primary focus will be to lead the development of Imperial Brands’ Human Rights strategy and provide guidance to the business in implementing the strategy and delivering against Imperial’s targets. Working closely with key functions including Global Supply Chain (GSC), LEAF, and Fontem, you will educate, advise and inform the business on changes in regulation and opportunities which will support the delivery of our wider Sustainability Strategy. Your role is to support the business in minimising risk, implementing due diligence procedures, realising opportunities and creating measurable positive impact in the delivery of the wider IB sustainability strategy. Your primary focus will be to ensure the effective implementation of policies that support positive societal impact within the leaf supply chain. From an Environmental (E) Social (S) Governance (G) perspective, this means leading on the ‘S’ within the leaf supply chain. As the leaf sustainability lead on social issues, you will be responsible for the effective implementation of policies, for example Human rights and farmer livelihoods policies, as well as ensuring effective management of non-conformances to minimise risk and measure impact. Working as part of the small central Sustainability Team, your role is to lead on the Human Rights pillar of our sustainability strategy. As an Human Rights professional, you will work cross functionally across all areas along Imperial’s value chain (i.e. from growing, supply chain, manufacturing, though to end of product life) your role is to support the business in minimising its risk and realising opportunities where possible.
Human Rights Management• Develop, update and maintain the company position and Policy on Human Rights issues including farmers livelihoods and welfare, modern slavery, child labour, Health & Safety throughout the value chain;• Develop standards, procedures and guidance to support the business in delivering against the strategy;• Create and maintain a global governance structure for human rights management;• Engage with key stakeholders and the wider business to ensure legal compliance by supporting functions and Markets to understand legislative requirements;• Strengthen Group process for identifying and managing human rights risks aligned with the with relevant external partners;• Keep abreast of changing human rights legislation that may impact Imperial Brands• Program manage the human rights action plan, ensure appropriate governance and lead on risk management Develop, Educate and Support• Develop and implementation of a plan to support functions in delivering against targets in order to continually improve our overall performance against agreed metrics; • Support the Leaf Sustainability team to manage and mitigate against human rights issues in the leaf supply chain; Reporting• Manage the modern slavery reporting • Input as required into ESG submissions, including the CDP submissions• Maintain relations with OHSE experts from around the Group via regular steering committees as well as interaction through the Non-Financial Reporting (NFR) System• Support the wider Sustainability and Communications teams with content for case studies and increased narrative and transparency around our human rights performance• Ability to research and produce reports as required for developing policies, procedures and board papers
Skills & experience
• Proven operational sustainability experience, ideally from a FMCG• University degree- public affairs, international development, law or other relevant disciplines• Experience working on business and human rights issues.• Knowledge of environmental legislation applicable to a UK Plc• Experience working in a high-performing, fast paced and challenging environment• Excellent communication and interpersonal skill• Experience of working to voluntary reporting requirements• Proficient in data analysis• Willingness to travel globally• Understanding of UNGPs, SDGs and relevant legal and voluntary frameworks
