The role

Imperial Brands is currently undergoing a strategic transformation to become a consumer-centric organisation and the new Insights function will be a crucial driving force behind this change, placing consumer preferences and demands at the centre of commercial decision making to gain competitive advantage.

Within the overall function, the Data & Analytical Services team provides services that allow actionable insight to be produced.

Its role is to:

1. Embed data science within Imperial's business processes and ability to make key decisions

2. Drive alignment via standardised consumer reporting to the business

3. Transform how we use consumer data, driving standardised best practice across the business Reporting into the Data & Analytical Services Director, this position aligns to the second of these areas

This role’s responsibility is to stand up a central reporting unit that will use data from the central data lake ('Hive'). This will achieve alignment in how Imperial views data, leading to consistently strong and efficient insight generation.

The Head of Reporting will own the roadmap for rolling out central reporting, drive the adoption of it once available, and collate & prioritise reporting requests to meet business needs

Key accountabilities

  • Manage the centralisation of reporting processes from markets into centre, in line with data lake rollout
  • Oversee the collation and prioritisation of reporting requests. Liaise with senior insight stakeholders, e.g. across Consumer and Market Insights, geographies, research and data functions, to plan the cross-team delivery of more complex priority requests
  • Line manage a team of up to c.13 analysts based centrally. Co-ordinate the transition of the team from its interim to final state, bringing Tier 1 (priority markets) reporting managers into your central team, whilst delivering more standardised services across Tier 2 and 3. Scale your team size and shape as global needs evolve further.
  • Balance resources effectively across your team to deliver to priority needs. Set up effective processes to meet these, and fluctuating Tier 1 market demands
  • Develop team members via coaching, training and mentorship. Work directly with the Interim Data & Reporting Lead, Head of Data Science and Head of Research to build a solid understanding within the team of the data sources, tools and assets available to deliver reporting
  • Review team outputs to ensure high quality standards are being consistently met or exceeded, within agreed delivery timescales
  • Work closely with the Interim MDM & Insights Hub Support to develop the reporting front end of the new global reporting platform, applying best practice reporting techniques to drive impact and usage of the system
  • Engage with stakeholders across markets and geographies, as well as with colleagues across central insight teams, ensuring reporting is delivered in line with expectations
  • Set global quality, accuracy and independence standards for reporting. Inform these via an audit of best practice reporting outputs within and outside Imperial
  • Own reporting-specific processes and principles, with a continuous focus on driving efficiency. Set interaction standards with clients – e.g. building rapport, challenging the brief, offering a range of options, setting achievable deadlines etc
  • Assist the Data & Analytical Services Director in raising awareness of the central reporting function, setting clear expectations about capacity and ways of working

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, to coach and nurture a team.
  • Enthusiasm for passing down knowledge / skills · Keen eye for detail e.g. when reviewing outputs
  • Commercial nous; adept at translating technical details / individual data points into clear, insightful stories
