The Role

Imperial Brands PLC is committed to making a meaningful contribution to harm reduction by building a consumer-centric portfolio of potentially less harmful next generation products (NGPs) for adult smokers that would otherwise continue to smoke. We are seeking to recruit an innovative and experienced applied behavioural scientist who is passionate about the company’s mission and excited to apply behavioural science principles to the scientific substantiation of Imperial’s portfolio of potentially less harmful non-combustible products including heated tobacco, electronic nicotine delivery devices and oral nicotine pouches.

You will provide scientific and technical expertise in behavioural assessments and lead in the delivery of behavioural scientific research programs (pre and post market launch) within the department of Harm Reduction and Engagement to substantiate the harm reduction potential of our NGPs and support global regulatory submissions, engagement materials, and corporate positions. Working with external behavioural sciences suppliers and contract research organizations, the behavioural scientist will have experience co-developing and managing qualitative and quantitative research with external behavioural sciences suppliers and in the analysis, interpretation and compilation of evidence packages. The successful candidate will need to be detail oriented, self-directed, flexible, and have the ability to balance workload and project timelines to meet departmental and project goals coordinating timelines.

Principle Accountabilities

  • Lead, maintain and further develop relationships with strategic external partnerships and suppliers in the behavioural sciences space.
  • Develop and manage behavioural studies and coordinating external partners to produce high-quality, scientifically accurate documents to support pre and post market assessment of our products.
  • Manage the analysis, interpretation and compilation of evidence packages regarding behavioural science and the preparation scientific packages and narratives for regulatory submissions and engagement activities.
  • Collaborate closely with a wide range of stakeholder including Group Science & Regulatory Affairs, Corporate & Legal Affairs, Global Consumer Office and other relevant functions to communicate key findings of behavioural science research both internally and externally.
  • Provide the business in-depth expert support, specialist guidance, and advocacy on relevant issues including critical analysis of relevant scientific publications.
  • Contribute to the maintenance and improvement of team processes, technical training, management interaction and team presentations.
  • Attend appropriate courses/conferences to maintain recent and relevant knowledge in designated topics to be at the forefront of scientific knowledge in this area.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and applied experience in an aspect of science related to behavioural health sciences and policy, health outcomes research, psychology, social sciences or behavioural change
  • Proven experience in leading qualitative and quantitative research acquired in academia or industry, preferably in a regulated consumer products industry such as pharmaceuticals, medical devices, tobacco, food or cosmetics
  • Strong and proven project management and external collaborations skills
  • Creative thinking and intellectual curiosity paired with a strong ability to understand complex relationships
  • Solutions focused with an ability to priorities as appropriate
  • Excellent communication skills to lay and scientific audiences combined with the ability to communicate easily across cultures and organizational levels
  • Strong relationship building skills and ability to foster cross-functional collaboration

 The following qualifications and experience are desirable but not essential

  • Postgraduate qualification
  • In-depth understanding of tobacco & nicotine products science and policy
